As we begin each new year, we reflect on the past year and set our resolutions for the 12 months ahead. Many of us vow to be more organized and an easy place to start is organizing your wardrobe.

Since many people experienced drastic lifestyle changes during 2020, you may find that your wardrobe needs are very different this year. For example, your attire when working from home is much different than when you are in an office.

We are all ready for a fresh start as we say goodbye to the challenges of 2020. Start with something small such as cleaning out your closet or getting it organized. In addition to getting a clean closet, you just may find it inspires you to tackle bigger organizational goals.

Tips for organizing your wardrobe

Organizing your wardrobe doesn’t have to be a dreary dreaded task. It can be fun as you uncover clothes you haven’t worn in a while and make room for new ones. However, it can be difficult to get started so just pick a drawer or closet and jump right in!

  1. Create sort piles.

Designate areas for clothes you will keep, throw away, donate or need to clean. Use a trash can or bag for the items you want to toss and a box or bag for clothes to donate. Use your Champion Cleaners bag for clothes that need cleaned. That way when you are finished, you don’t have the next step of bagging up clothes.

  1. Go through everything

Go through every dresser drawer and every corner of your closet. Sort through everything you are storing, not just the clothes. If it helps you, take everything out and only put back what you want to keep.

  1. Get rid of what you don’t use

You’ve probably heard people say if you haven’t worn it in the last year, get rid of it. However, you don’t need a calendar to tell you whether you will wear something again. If you rediscover something you like, start wearing it. If you don’t think you’ll wear it, donate it. Remember, when you get rid of things, you have room for new things!

  1. Organize your clothes

After thinning out your wardrobe, make it more functional. Organize it based on your needs. Group clothing together by season, casual or professional or whatever makes the most sense for you.

  1. Stay organized

You worked hard organizing your closet so don’t let it go to waste. Try to stay organized. Throughout the year, get rid of things you don’t wear. Don’t just shove them in the back of the closet or drawer. If you do it consistently, it won’t be a big chore next year.

An organized closet or dresser is not only more functional but also makes you feel good. You will find things faster, saving time when you get dressed in the morning. It will also feel nice walking into a clean, fresh closet. It’s a good start to a new year!
