What to wear is a popular question this time of year as partygoers prepare to celebrate the holidays and ring in a new year.
You want to look your best, be comfortable and have a good time. Your attire depends on the type of party. Are you dressing for the work holiday party or your friend’s New Year bash? Make sure you are prepared for any and all party invites that may come your way this time of year.
Even for casual parties, you’ll be more comfortable in clothes that make you feel and look good. Be sure to check the party invite to see what to wear.
Check the closet and try on any clothes you think you might want to wear. Do you need to wash them or send them to the dry cleaner? Check the tag and make sure to follow the directions. You should also try on the clothes in case your weight has changed since the last time you wore them. If it’s more formal attire, you may not have worn it in a while, it might need to be cleaned and pressed or tailored.
Scan the closet and ensure you have something to wear or head to your favorite clothing store ahead of time.
Although it’s Southwest Florida, you may need something warm to wear such as a sweater or jacket. Be sure to try those on as well and make sure they go with your outfit.

When deciding what to wear, you may want to consider:
- Something festive yet professional for the office party.
- Don’t be afraid to wear some bling to spice up the outfit.
- Seasonal clothes and accessories are fun but don’t go overboard.
- Be cautious of the word “casual” for any party because the word means different things to different people. Find out what others are wearing.
- Don’t be afraid of color and a little sparkle — red and green or other festive colors are a good choice.
